Getting Messy

Sometimes, you just need to get messy.  And... I did.  My workspace is also quite the sight too!

I decided to go the mixed media route for the new challenge at Lasting Memories.  The challenge is use glitter and glam!  Hence - the mess.  The result:

The mess includes gesso, modeling paste, ultra fine Flower Soft, color mist, ink, water, glitter glue, and glitter! (The jury is still out if I went overboard with the silver glitter.) Placing a few embellishments in the corner and altering letters and numbers to make a title complete the page.

I hope you can join us on this challenge - the links are due at the end of March!

Materials Used: DCWV papers, Bazzill cardstock, paper stencil, Liquitex gesso & modeling paste, Studio G glitter glue, Flower Soft - Ultra Fine Strawberry, Studio Calico/Mister Huey's Color Mist - Real Red, Prima Marketing - Say It in Crystals - pearls, Jolee's Boutique - dimensional sticker (crown), Thickers alphabets, silk flowers, silver glitter, and Stampin' Up Brilliant Blue ink.

Love This Color Combo

Blue and green are my all time favorite colors - especially together.  They simply make me happy.  So, imagine my delight when I saw the new color challenge at Lasting Memories (#281).  Here is the palette:

This is what I created:

I must have pulled out 20 different pieces of paper to make this color combo work - I just could not decide which patterns to use! After a decision was made, I started to layer my papers and pick embellishments.

I kept the souvenir photo in the jacket in which we received it.  Though it does not photograph well, I adhered the middle of the jacket directly onto the paper.  I then put foam tabs under the outside edges.  The idea is to make the jacket appear like an open book.  Subtle, very subtle, but it works.

AND - if you follow my, you know that I struggle with my alphabets all the time.  I never have the right letters and I have so many letters that I have this strange desire to use reduce my stash!  So for my title, I did not have "e's" nor "r's."  UGH.  So the I use an old trick.  Turn "3's" around to make the "e's" and cut "p's" to make the "r's."  Finally, to add just a little more finished look to the project, I inked the edges of the base paper.

I hope you can join me in this awesome color challenge!  But hurry, links are due this Friday (2/26).

Materials Used: DCWV papers, cardstock, 3 different ribbons, unknown manufacturer of chipboard photo corners, Paper Trunk - Benny alphabet, Recollections flowers, Sizzix Flower & Vines #2 big die, and Stampin' Up Brilliant Blue ink.

Thinking outside the box...

When I first saw the color challenge for this week, I immediately thought of fall.  Perhaps it is because of the heavy socks in the photo....  In any case, I am working on beachy pictures at the moment so this was a particularly interesting challenge for me.

I started with finding papers that met the color palette below.  Then I was off to find suitable pictures.

Lots of layering, some ribbons, and a few embellishments - this page is a wrap.

However, I noticed my taupe and "lake" colors look deeper in color in my picture below than in real life... hmmm.  Oh well... photographing inside is always a little tricky for me.

I hope you can join me in this great challenge over at Lasting Memories (#280).  Be sure to link up by 2/26.  I can't wait to see your work!

Materials Used: Bazzill cardstock, scrap paper (BONUS!), Jellybean Soup - Country Pumpkin Chowder paper, ribbon, Echo Park - Paradise Beach alphabet (small squares on bottom), Studio Calico alphabet, Krylon Make-It Acid-Free! spray (for letter souvenir), paperclip, Kaiser Scrapbook rhinestones, and Petaloo - The Penny Lane Mixed Blossoms.

Nothing Like The Beach

When you look at the new mood/color board challenge at Lasting Memories, you can't help but think of the beach!  Ahhh - there is nothing like the beach!  The new challenge this week (#279) is another board to be inspired by...

Life is grand when you find just the perfect papers for this challenge.  Using the accent color as my base, I sanded the Coredinations paper for a worn effect.  I added the patterned paper that matched the colors on the board.  With a little fussy cutting and sewing, my page is complete.

All links are due February 26.  I hope to see your work!

Materials Used:  Coredinations paper, Bo Bunny - Key Lime papers, Paper Trunk- Benny alphabet, thread, and clear button (lower right).

It Is All About The Blues At Lasting Memories

Blue is such a great color I think - so you can simply imagine my delight when I learned of the new color challenge at Lasting Memories (#278).  The challenge is to be inspired by the color board below:
When I saw the feminine images and the pink flower, I immediately thought of a photo of my daughter at The Nutcracker.  Our family goes every year (or just about) and my daughter always takes a picture with the Sugar Plum Fairy.  We have done it so much so that it has become a sort of tradition.

I started looking for papers in my newly reorganized stash and found some old papers that needed to be used (or tossed).  I also went to PageMaps (January 2016) for a little help pulling together the page.  There really isn't anything notable about my work other than - getting a little creative with alphabets and a lot of layering.

I hope you are able to join us - I can't wait to see your work!  Links are due at the end of the month.

Materials Used: Bazzill cardstock, ribbon, old - really old patterned papers, ribbon, sequins, transparent and cardstock snowflakes (unknown manufacturer), Queen & Co - Dark Blue Snowflake, Rhinestones, PaperTrunk - Carson alphabet, and Basic Grey - Basic Mini Mono alphabet.

New Challenge at Lasting Memories

Lasting Memories has posted their new challenge (#274) for the new year!  The challenge is to create a layout following the theme "New Beginnings."  Show us what you do that's NEW.  Activity, sport, project, hobby, making a new friend...

Since I am still working on 2012, I found photos of my son trying on his new hockey equipment - getting ready to learn how to play ice hockey.  He was really excited about his new adventure and still loves the sport today.

I can't wait to see what new adventures that you experienced!  Links are due at the end of January.

Here is my example:

To help me pull this page together, I used a PageMap from January 2016.

Another note that I need to add is that I re-organized most of my scrap stuff.  I followed Totally Tiffany's plan (using some but not all of her materials) and I have to say it was easy to pull this layout together.  I was so tickled how everything came together so quickly and pretty much effortlessly.  How crazy is it that the cardstock, transparency and labels all had little dots on them.  Though I have to admit - that was simply pure luck but none-the-less, I was able to find all of these elements under 10 minutes.  The whole layout took me less than 30 minutes to complete.  I'm just a little excited.

Materials Used: Coredinations cardstock, Bazzill cardstock, scrap transparency, Basic Grey -Basics Label Stickers, Me & My Big Ideas Soft Spoken embellishment (hockey title), and brads.
